Shelter for the homeless
Most of the poor people do not have a house to live in. The provision of suitable houses to shanty dwellers is also a necessity. The government is trying to do its utmost to provide shelter to the homeless people.
There were one million housing programmes, and various other programmes to provide houses to the poor by the previous governments. Even the present government is trying to slove this problem. But the getting of money is the biggest problem.
The International Monnetary fund and the world Bank are also providing financial assistance to our country to enable the government do these works. If we have money we can build at least a couple of thousand cottages for the poor homeless people.
The most important factor for the wellbeing of the poor people is food and shelter. Shelter means houses to live in and not pavements to sleep on. Therefore, we have to build more and more houses in villages, specially in the rural areas.
Now the cost of the living is gradually increasing and the people find it difficult to build their houses. Thatswhy the government banks have come forward to help the people by the way of loans to build houses.
There are various housing programmes. All these are introduce either by the government or by various voluntary organisations. Under these programmes we can build houses using raw materials which could be obtained easily from the resources of respective areas. Self-help houses can be built using these raw materials and energy of the people we can also build houses on a Shramadana basis.
The government will have to spend a large ammount of money to provide houses to the people. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage them to build their own houses with others' cooperation. This way the government would be in a position to solve the housing problem of the people.
